About Bill

My name is Bill Stevens and I am a member of the Congregation of Christian Brothers and taught in our schools in Canada, The West Indies, and the United States before training to be a hospital chaplain. I served as Chaplain for 10 years at three different hospitals in Syracuse, NY and New Brunswick, NJ. In the 80’s I became active in responding to the AIDS crisis by establishing a non-profit organization, Chrysalis Ministry, to reach out to people living and dying with this disease. It was during this period of time that I became a Reiki Practitioner and used it as part of my ministry.

After practicing Reiki for ten years, I studied in the Reiki Jin Kei Do Tradition. I completed 300 hours of Professional Practitioner Training with Kunzang Dechen Chodron in November of 2001 and completed an apprenticeship year as a Master Level student with Gilbert Gallego in May, 2002. www.reikijinkeido.org

In May, 2008, I completed a Reiki Mastership training with a Buddhist monk, Hyakuten Inamoto, from Japan called Komyo Reiki Kai (www.KomyoReikiKai.com). Hyakuten had studied with Mrs. Yamaguchi Chiyoko (1916-2003) who was a student of Hayashi Chujiro Sensei (1880-1940), who was a student of Mikao Usui (1865-1926).

In April, 2009, I completed a Reiki Training with Frans Stiene (www.ihreiki.com) who created the International Reiki Association with his wife, Bronwen Stiene, and has done extensive research into the beginnings of Reiki and how Mikao Usui, the Founder of Reiki, taught Reiki to his students.

In June, 2009, I completed both a Core and Advanced Curriculum in offering Reiki to animals with Kathleen Prasad (www.animalreikisource.com) who pioneered formal studies in this field and co-founded the Shelter Animal Reiki Association. www.shelteranimalreikiassociation.org

In December, 2009, I participated in the Reiki III Animal Reiki Training Program in Santa Rosa, CA at Bright Haven with Kathleen to deepen my knowledge and practice.

While in Santa Rosa I spent considerable time with Gail Pope, who is the President and Founder of Bright Haven, a sanctuary and a hospice for senior and disabled animals (www.brighthaven.org). She and her husband are dedicated to the rescue, care and enhancement of the lives of elderly, disabled and chronically ill animals. They advocate for a balance of natural feeding, holistic care, and modern medicine, in a loving environment. It was a unique opportunity for me to offer Reiki to the animals in this sacred setting.

I now work part time as a Reiki practitioner for the VNACJ Hospice Program, teach Reiki classes, have a private practice and offer my services to shelter and rescue animals in the local community as a teacher and practitioner for the Shelter Animal Reiki Association.
